Alan Taman is currently taking a funded PhD on the psycho-social determinants of perceptions of health inequality at Birmingham City University.
He first became aware of the importance of perceptions in health while working as a communications manager at Birmingham Children's Hospital, then as a campaigner for national groups working to stop NHS privatisation and cuts. He still works for Doctors for the NHS as their communications lead.
He has many years' experience in health journalism and public relations, which will help him in publicising the results of his research to promote better health policies.
